“As artists we are constantly looking for motivation, inspiration, and our own unique style. I’m fortunate enough to find all these things in my daily life and surroundings. My paintings aren’t supposed to mean anything. I try hard to make my abstract compositions not look like any type of figure. I want to display my skill and techniques without creating a narrative." - Rashad Nelson

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rashad Nelson was born in 1991 in Boston, MA. He grew up in Roslindale with his grandparents, both of whom were pivotal in nurturing his artistic development. Inspired by his grandfather’s collection, Rashad began building model cars at an early age. The miniature details…from the chrome handles to the treads in the tires…fixated him. Rashad translated his concepts of cars into sketches with pencil and paper.
As a teenager Rashad's interest in art drew him to graffiti and street art. He moved around the city at night, writing his tag name on walls, street signs, and utility poles. Around this time Rashad was introduced to Artists for Humanity, where he began to learn painting and refine his artistic technique.
In recent years, Rashad’s work has been exhibited at retail boutiques around Boston including Bodega, BAU/Business as Usual, and Jiberish. His experience “graffiti bombing” plays heavily in his abstract style. Rashad continues to explore his original artistic outlet of sketching. His love for the arts extends to music and fashion.
